One of those days

Sometimes I feel like smacking whoever runs the Metropolitan line. It seems to be the only one which stops at red signals and multiple ones at the same time. Ah well!

What’s your elevator etiquette? (or Lift if you prefer) I take one to get to my floor at work, and usually there’s a bunch of us trying to get in. I usually just smile, step in, face the doors, hold my breath, look at the floor numbers as it counts down or up and get out as fast as I can. Today, I was alone *dancing makossa* Why do elevators have mirrors again? I re-checked my hair, my clothes…

Everyone in the kitchen, getting breakfast and my teammate S, grabs the last banana, I’m furious, you know how I feel about my bananas. I made some quick oats and then went to Subway to get their £2 breakfast deal, I hope I don’t get addicted to it. Nice sunny day, which put a smile back on my face.

Work was mild, I asked my boss if he could give me my review when he was less busy, he said ok. Unfortunately, he was too busy with a presentation and then booked a date for 11 am tomorrow, can’t wait. Spent the day building layouts on grid in Omnigraffle, reading and discussing about game models. I chatted for a while with our newest team member, Q. He gave a bit of background to why he got into UX because he had studied Graphic Design in his first degree. I’m really interested in that sort of thing.

The pattern I see with all of us designers is the need to take ideas in our heads and bring them to life. Went a bit further with this as I talked to a friend about taking opportunities to people who have these ideas and don’t have a means of passing it along. Watch this space. If we don’t who will?

I got to answer some questions over Skype for a UX-er who is doing research on Work Benefits systems. A bit fun. Lasted about 20mins, luckily it was ‘breaking time’

AGILE UX TIP:

Again, it is a really good move to have taken the UX team from under development and tech into Products. It is at the product level that user stories are created that shape the product and it is definitely a crazy thing if there are no UX people involved in it. I read something recently about UX strategists. I can’t imagine why you would need a different title and create a separate role for this. Any UX-er that works closely with the Product owners is a strategist by default.

I ended my day by trying out, with a friend, a new Spanish restaurant close to work, Toros Y Toreros. Nice food, good music, and an eager waiter, what more could one ask for? Later, went for a book reading at Waterstones with Nigerian Writer Chibundu Onuzo. Met some lovely people, had a good chat, some wine and a ride, home.
